Our Classroom Had A Visit From ‘STATEN ISLAND CHUCK’ Today!
Today we had an amazing day! Staten Island Chuck came to visit with his handler and friend, Mr. Doug Schwartz. We got a real up close view of what a groundhog really looks like. He was bigger than we imagined. Mr. Schwartz said he was about 10 lbs. He loved to eat peanuts. He would come out of his mobile home only to snatch up another nut and then he’d go back in to eat it. He woke up early from hibernation to come to our class for a visit and he was still pretty tired. When he yawned we got a great view of his teeth! He has two big long and sharp top teeth and two big sharp bottom teeth in the front of his mouth for gnawing and flat teeth on the sides of his mouth for chewing. His hair is beautiful to look at, but coarse and not soft at all.We made a class graph of our predictions of what Chuck will see when it is Groundhogs Day on Saturday. Most of us think he will tell us that Spring is right around the corner. Here are some photos:

Goodbye Chuck! We loved that you came and visited!
